Hand Signals 101

“Progress depends as much on unlearning what you’ve been taught as it does on learning new things.”

I made that up. It’s particularly pertinent to drawing. Take these hands I drew here. I had to deliberately vary the sizes of the fingers, cos as a kid I’d learned that fingers were generally uniform.

I love the simplicity and playfulness of your work.

And I understand the struggle to “unlearn” drawing…the fight with that gut-wrenching feeling when you are intentionally trying to do an illustration “wrong”, that voice in your head that keeps niggling you for incorrect proportions or perspective. But it’s all worth it when you can finally break that hold, isn’t it?

    Keep up the great work.

or as Mr P said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain one once he grows up.”
