Small Town books

October 31, 2008

My Small Town wrapping paper has been selling really well – according to the good folk at GLMS Cards. So they’ve gone ahead and made the paper into books like this. I went to have a look on Monday and when I got to their warehouse – they were sold out. Which is great. This one book was a sample copy and was the lone survivor. The books are very cool. Hardcover, blank inside with a lovely matte feel on the outside. I also love the way the images have been cropped. Cards will be made soon and I’ll be getting onto the next installment of the Small Town wrapping.

The Western Nostril – volume 1

October 21, 2008

Things have been quiet on my blog partly because we’ve just finished our first book of cartoons and sent the files to the printer. So if you haven’t thought what you can get family and friends for Christmas, just hold on ’til early November. The book is great and will be on sale through our website – www.thewesternnostril.com for a meagre R110 or thereabouts. We’re only printing 1000 copies, so we’re hoping to sell out. We’ve even got a little blurb on the front cover from Zapiro. This is what he has to say about The Western Nostril:

“Seriously twisted! If South African cartooning can produce something this wacky, we’re in good shape.”

So if you don’t believe me about the Christmas gift idea, at least listen to Zapiro.

Children’s art exhibition

October 11, 2008

I was invited to participate in a children’s art exhibition at Curious Whetstone and Frankley – a small gallery in Observatory, Cape Town. Initially I turned it down because I’ve got a joint exhibition at the same gallery in March next year (with my brother Patrick) – which is actually pretty soon. Anyway, after a bit of mulling I decided to do a few pieces for it. It starts on the 3rd of December and you can find out directions and more details here. I’m going with penguins. Here’s one I did this weekend.

Playboy

This is for a MensHealth Living article about having the in-laws over to stay. Part of the advice is to stack classic literature next to your bed to make it seem like bed time is for reading and cultural enrichment.
