Hand Signals 101

June 27, 2007

“Progress depends as much on unlearning what you’ve been taught as it does on learning new things.”

I made that up. It’s particularly pertinent to drawing. Take these hands I drew here. I had to deliberately vary the sizes of the fingers, cos as a kid I’d learned that fingers were generally uniform.

June 15, 2007

Thanks to Mr Midlane (my old biology teacher) I am able to draw an accurate cross-section of an elephant straight from my brain. Wow. I think I will do a series of these. What animal next?

I’ve been trying to get back into using Freehand (yes, even though it’s going out of fashion.) I think I’m getting the hang of it. I’m also feeling more and more comfortable drawing people. I still have some distance to go, but if hard work pays off (and I hear it does) then I’m well on my way.

Naughty thoughts

June 8, 2007

There’s been a fair amount of debate as to whether this sort of thing (boobs) is appropraite to put on a blog. Some really think it’s fantastic, and others aren’t sure. I hope that no one out there takes offence.
This was a fun excercise in developing a character and then making him come to life. I used a couple of new methods of getting groovy textures. You won’t see most of it, ‘cos this is such a small picture. I await your comments.
