May 17, 2007This is my interpretation of one of the many cool styles of illustration that my brother Patrick has developed. (see www.patricklatimer.co.za). I’ve learned a few important things (so far) from the way he illustrates.
Such as…
1: Outlines and necks are disposable.
2: Detail is key. (I should’ve added loads more of it. Just ran out of time.)
Waiter, waiter!
May 15, 2007The final illustration for Good Taste, issue 191. I must say that it really is a pleasure to illustrate a well written article – thanks Dave Biggs. It makes finding a cool illustration so much easier. The article is about how rubbish some waiters (waitrons, waitroids and waitresses) can be.
The actual illustrating was fun. Though it took me three attempts to get the hang of that hand. Not sure why. Anyway, once it clicked, I was ‘A’ for away.

May 14, 2007Aliens like wine too
May 11, 2007This is my first commissioned illustration. It’s for an article in Good Taste magazine (no, not Taste magazine) about something to do with wine and aliens. Using the powers of mental aerobics and putting to use years of tertiary study, I managed to think up a picture to illustrate the article using those two elements – I would draw an alien drinking wine! Awesome.
I did two other illustrations for the current issue, which comes out today. So look out for Good Taste magazine (no, seriously, it’s not Taste magazine, it’s Good Taste magazine, it was around before Taste.) I also write book reviews for Good Taste – so if you would like proof that I’m actually a writer, check it out. (If you want proof that I’m actually an illustrator, check it out too.)
